Welcome to Scissett Middle School
| Winter weather conditions |
| During the coldest part of the year it is wise to consider the possible effects of extreme weather conditions on the normal running of the school. Please visit our "extreme weather" page for further details. |
Scissett Middle School is a 10-13 middle school situated in the semi-rural Dearne Valley. It has a wide catchment area which includes the villages of Scissett, Denby Dale, Skelmanthorpe, Flockton and Cumberworth.
Children at Scissett Middle School enjoy a wide range of activities which extends their experience in many parts of the curriculum. Health and Safety is emphasised in all school activities, and always plays a key role in the organisation of field trips and visits.
Year 6 children have the opportunity to watch visiting theatre groups and take part in workshops to enhance their learning experience. A day visit is organised at the end of the year, usually to a popular venue, for example, The Forbidden Corner in North Yorkshire when SATs testing is complete.
As part of Year 6 work in Humanities, class work is combined with field study work which also helps to reinforce practical skills in Geography.
In Year 7, pupils have the chance to take part in an Outdoor Pursuits Adventure week at Boreatton Park in Shropshire. Pupils are introduced to new activities, such as canoeing, raft building, zip wire, abseiling and archery. The experience is valuable in building teamwork and a spirit of co-operation, and the children can benefit individually by testing their own endurance.

Year 8 children are able to join the French trip, which takes place in June and gives pupils the opportunity to sample French culture for a few days.
Click here for more information on the French Trip.
As part of their Key Stage 3 work, pupils also visit the Yorkshire Dales National Park to experience the limestone scenery and the rich geological features at Malham.
Once again, the importance of Health and Safety is strongly emphasised in the organisation of all school events and activities.
