Internet and email access in school.
Pupils currently use ICT and the Internet to research information from museums, libraries, news providers and suitable web sites as part of their programme of learning and will soon be able to exchange electronic mail with each other and with partner schools. Our investment in this new technology means greater access to information and in the ways we can approach education and communication. Our pupils are as excited as we are to make the most of this opportunity.
Scissett Middle School has a high-speed broadband connection to the Internet. The Internet is essentially an adult based medium and many parents will have concerns about pupils having access to undesirable materials and websites. To that end we have taken positive steps to deal with that possibility. Our Internet connection includes robust filtering systems that restricts access to inappropriate materials using a combination of rules and a database of known offensive sites which is constantly being updated (click here for more information about Internet access at Scissett Middle School).
On these pages you will find a copy of the Responsible Use of ICT and the Internet statement that we operate at our school. You should take the time to discuss the issues, covered on these pages with your child and ensure that they understand them.
Should you wish to discuss any aspect of Internet use, please telephone the school and we can arrange a mutually convenient appointment or answer your queries straightaway.
Internet and email access outside school.
Whilst we have various systems to ensure your child is safe when using the Internet at school, they may still be at risk when using the Internet at home, at friends houses, or on their mobile phones. It is essential that you speak to your child about the risks and dangers, particularly about communicating with people they don't know.
Our e-safety videos section features some great videos which highlights the dangers children may face. You may wish to watch these and decide if you want to show them to your children as well.
There are also some great resources from CEOP on their 'Thinkuknow' website which may help you talk to your children with confidence. Visit http://www.thinkuknow.co.uk/ for more information.
